Bra Strap Syndrome- the solution

The Bra strap syndrome is now recognised by clinicians as an entity.Wearing the wrong style or poorly fittted  bra can lead to major complications like chronic shoulder pain and back pain. A classic symptom is pain in the shoulder, arms and hands and classic sign is indentations in the shoulder area.

With its’ unique design the optifit bra deals comprehensively with this syndrome.  We have helped many of our clients with these symptoms.  Don’t take our word for it.  Here is one of our clients:

Optifit has made a huge difference for me. I was resigned to the deep indentations in my shoulders; the sheer weight that they were attempting to hold up. This was an ongoing problem all of my adult life and I just tried to cover up as best I could. The Optifit has changed all of that. Before, I had neck and shoulder pain and sometimes back pain but with Optifit this all ended with shoulders being pushed back instead of pulled down which took all the pressure off the shoulders and neck with support across the back and opened up my chest cavity so that my lungs now have space to open up and I can breathe more naturally. But most important of all I feel properly supported and this has made my confidence bloom!
It will take a week or so to adjust to the very different positioning of the Optifit and there is some tightness in your ribs as the day wears on but the body does adjust as it adapts to the new correct posture and breathing. I had to watch my bad habits didn’t creep back such as slouching and wanting the Optifit to move into the old position I was used to so I had to be be especially vigilant to check the Optifit 2 to 3 times a day. The golden rule is never pull down at the front! Instead pull up, roll over and pull down at the back and the Optifit stays in position.
The price of the Optifit is a bargain for a custom made product. I found the pre and aftercare service was excellent. Sue from the Optifit team is extremely dedicated and committed. If at all possible, try to go to the Optifit shop in person to be measured and fitted by Sue. It is very definitely worth it and if you find you are quite a distance away then consider visiting the village of Uppermill where Optifit is located as a tourist. Uppermill is nestled in lush green hills on the borders of rural Yorkshire and Dovestone Reservoir is just down the road!

Another Review

Hi Sue

Here at last is the review I promised, if it is too long just use what you can.

Wow, difference is day to night!

That’s what my husband said when he first saw me in my new optifit bra and I was delighted, at last I had found the bra I have been searching for. I had got used to being uncomfortable and tolerating the pain the wires caused by digging into me. I cringed when I looked in the mirror and saw the back fat but when I pointed this out whilst getting fitted I was told that this was the price I had to pay for having pert breasts so I struggled on, I just thought because of my size 32HH it was as good as I could get but then I found Optifit! I sent for the measure but was unsure and contacted Sue at the Bra Spa, before you knew it I had my bra and I am delighted, no back fat, no bounce and no pain! I have since visited the Spa and was met with such warmth I really enjoyed it, something which never happened when I went to purchase a bra, I normally dreaded it. I am ordering again today building up my collection of everyday bras but having seen the Spa and the designs available I will be ordering for a long time to come!

A letter from America

Hi Sue

I just got my bras and, of course, I couldn’t wait to drop everything to try them on.

I had already watched the videos and so had a rough idea of what to expect but followed the wonderful diagrams provided as best I could.  ZOMG – AMAZING – I am a “saved” woman.  I have spent my entire life trying to get myself into bras and everything else that goes on top of them and this is the very best bra I have ever worn.

I keep peeping down my t-shirt to look at my boobs which look pert for the first time in their poor lives 🙂  I am now about to put things to the real test and go and do some yoga with my new bra.

Again, from the very bottom of my heart, thank you.  I am so utterly delighted to have found your company and plan on replacing every single bra I currently have with Optifit.  I had already been getting rid of underwires but now I can get rid of the tryhard but epicfail soft cups too.

Another happy client

From Selina Reid

The bra spa is amazing. The most comfortable and well-fitting bra I have ever worn. My bust looks three sizes smaller, my posture is improved and my clothes fit much better with no awful “back fat”. But best of all … no uncomfortable underwires poking and digging in! Life changing!

Poorly fitted bras and the concept of Bra Slide

One of the signs of a poorly fitted bra is when the bra does not sit at the inframammary crease.  A bra cannot provide adequate support when this is the case.  A optifit bra stays at the crease and provides appropriate and adequate support.  This photo shows the part of the chest where the bra is sitting several centimetres below the foldIMF-bra 002braslide2 copyScreen Shot 2016-07-17 at 17.52.16

A Bra fit for Yoga

We enclose a testimonial form a Yoga instructor who found the optifit bra perfect for her needs.  Read on:

I hope you have time to read this as I know you are inundated with orders from women like myself desperate to feel comfortable with what we’ve got rather than want surgery to remove these great weights.

I received my bra just as I was about to leave to teach my yoga class and was almost late because I wanted to put it on – which I did without reading the instructions, there and then, by the front door!

Well I had to walk very fast one mile to class so as not to be late,  expecting to feel bouncy and uncomfortable with no metal – but no, I felt light and free and well contained as if I had no size G.

In our mirrored studio I thought I had lost weight.   Apart from my bust I am not overweight but usually look as if I have back fat because of having to hitch up straps and wear bras  tight to hold me up .   Today – none.  Smooth back befitting my size 10.   I was ashamed of my vanity as I kept looking at myself in the studio mirrors.

Today we did sun salutatuon which is very bendy and stretchy, forward bends then lifting the arms up high, hanging over and back bending.  What a test, not a movement to my bra or bust.   Final test – normally my boobs end up around my face whilst demonstrating shoulder stand and having to talk through it is very muffled!!  Bust stayed in place even upside down and I didn’t need to adjust myself while no one was looking.

I have taught three classes today, my shoulders and back are comfortable.   With no underwire I feel I could wear it in bed.   No rucking underneath.   I even look perky which at 64 is not expected.

Tonight I have taken it off and followed the 12 steps and it is even more comfortable.

I can’t wait for tomorrow and see how it is at Tumble Tots with my 2 year old granddaughter needing to be hauled over ladders, pulled through tunnels, shown how to crawl on her tummy and cuddled when there are tears.

Sorry, I don’t normally go on like this but big busts are no fun and very matronly at my age – not any more.

Thank you.

May I please order my next one.

A Review by a client

It is not unusual for us to receive many e-mails about how good the optifit bra is and how it has changed many women with functional problems related to breast size.

Optifit bra

I have been looking for a good bra for years. In between bouts of raging at the sellers of the instruments of torture that we are currently mostly forced into. I listened to the outer and inner voices that told me that my body/breasts were wrong

The thought of having a bra that fits well is almost beyond my imagining. A few years ago I decided that I wasn’t going to wear bra’s any more. The underwires, were cutting into me and the skin next to my armpit and under my boobs was starting to look like I had developed my own manner of self mutilation.

The very expensive bra’s I was forced to buy had to be replaced at least three times a year and only because the underwires would fight their way out of the upper closure. There was no way to get them to stay in once they were through the fabric. I spent probably weeks over the years sewing tiny pieces of material onto the ends of the sockets only to have them wear through. I bought plastic tips which were supposed to keep them in but they (like pretty much every thing in the clothes market) were made for a smaller size.

I managed around 6 weeks without a bra in the NL – I often don’t wear one in the UK when I am there and it is not a problem – the visious stares and pseudo sotto voce nasty comments wore me down and I began to search for bra’s with no underwires. After three disatrous attempts to get them from the states I eventually bought one from the UK – all of them were too small, all of them were around the 50 euro mark – not including postage.

Having started a proper job I knew I needed to find a new bra solution. For years I have tried to find a made to measure bra company that I could afford. The average quoted price was around 300 pounds and always with underwires.

Then a few weeks ago I came across optifit. It seemed a bit good to be true. But I contacted the number and had the most amazing conversation with Sue McDonald the co owner of the business and designer of the bras

We talked about fashion, history, the (ab)use of women’s body to sell products that damage and cause pain, the ignored body/breast shape differences and the abnormalizing of non European body shapes/sizes. Amazing!

Sue said the best thing for your boobs, back, hips, shoulders whatever your breast shape and size is not to wear a bra!

But as we are suckers for our own (and each other’s) oppression. She sent me the info and instrument (optimeasure) to measure my boobs.

Everything comes in these gorgeous shiny purple envelopes. When the measure arrived I looked at if for the best part of a week before getting it out. While waiting I checked out the videos on you tube. When I opened my package I knew what I was getting and what I was supposed to do with it – and it still wasn’t easy. as suggested i did it three times my self and then another three times with my partner

I have to say that while it was really easy and super efficient to put my measurements onto the website (and Sue had seen them the next morning when I phoned), I couldn’t work out how to place an order for a bra, so I phoned to give her the credit card details.

After our first conversation I felt very secure about phoning Sue again and chatting with her. She really is always willing to help – she didn’t agree with my measurements and made a couple of alterations. The bra arrived within a week of ordering and again it took me quite a while of looking at the envelope before I dared open it – I was really nervous about being disapointed again.

So now into my second week of wearing the bra and just about to order another I realised I hadn’t actually written the three part blog I was intending with tales of finding, measuring and fitting.

another phone conversation and the sending of some photos was necessary to reassure me (though I am not convinced) that the bra is the right size. We agreed some slight adjustments for the next order as I was not going to send it back to be altered – it will do, it’s better than anything else I’ve got or have had for a long while.

I have the best shape I have ever had with a bra. There are no underwires and no scarring but I still can’t wait to get in a take it off when I get home (Free the Two!) After an all night party I was very aware of the upper back/shoulder ache that Sue says is to do with my body being pushed into better alignment

Did I say that these made to measure miracles are under the 60 euro mark at 50 pounds – plus postage – which I guessed and over payed for the bra – but the ‘optimeasure‘ was sent for free and cost more than the bra to post!

Validated Research

Independent research carried out by the University of Central Lancashire presented at the Society of Back pain research  has confirmed the efficacy of the optifit bra when compared to professionally fitted high street bras.  In fact the use of an optifit bra reduced neck pain by 50% and a professionally fitted high street bra increased neck ache by 400%!!
